Hotel Sunshine Renovation Plan

This is one of the latest commissions of the practice. We have been assigned by the owners to reform and upgrade the existing facilities of the hotel in order to create a solid base for future development. The old restaurant proposal has been overhauled in order to fit the rest of the hotel.
We started by looking at the main hotel building. It is an 800 sq. meter, "L" shaped structure with build balconies that don't allow the sun light enter the rooms and block the view. Some shingles and uneven exterior wall surfaces complete the existing look.

The first thing to address is to smooth all surfaces and remove all the unnecessary MEP equipment while all doors and windows will be replaced with new and more efficient.
We then went on and replaced all balconies and partitions with glass in order to let the light in the building. The corridor ends will be removed and replaced with glass panels for the same reason.
The next step is to add a permanent aluminum shading structure that is fitted to the building and complete the look by adding volumes of local stone and poured concrete.
Being a hotel owner my self I knew that all the semi-ground floor rooms had trouble selling all these years because they give the guests the feeling that they live in a basement. The only way to solve this problem is to add features that the other rooms couldn't. This can be solved either with some spacious private gardens or with private pool.

We went for both...

We widened the available space and reduced the elevation by adding a small garden while a pergola was added to prevent direct sunlight hit the rooms. A deck floor gives the necessary summer look and the indirect light is allowed in with the use of glass. Note that the glass partitions will be sandblasted to ensure privacy.

Some of the ground floor rooms will be merged in order to create family rooms after a request by the owners.

White color will dominate the rooms for better light "bounce". The rock and concrete surfaces are the same as in the rest of the hotel.

We then went on ad redesigned the common spaces and gardens. We added a children swimming pool and playground next to the restaurant and created a garden at the back. A necessary shaded parking space to cover the needs of the residents was also created.

The restaurant and bar were redesigned using the same principles and textures.

We did burn the midnight oil with this project for over the last month but the result was quite rewarding. We commissioned the project starting from October and the target is to be implemented over the next five years.
